ArtLoveMagic was asked to partner in this very cool event to raise money for a good cause. Heroes4Heroes supports US soldiers stationed overseas by sending them care packages filled willed the latest books, DVDs, comics, games, and magazines. |

We were invited by my friend Scott Hinze (of Fanboy Radio). He asked if artlovemagic could help kick the event to another level by bringing more artists. Ultimately we brought about ten painters and illustrators, about half of the total artists in attendance. David spent most of the night on a chair to reach the top of this eight foot tall painting of the X-Men's Rogue vs. Juggernaut. He continuously had a crowd around him watching him work all night. The finished piece was bought by our new pals Evan and Casey. They won our hearts when they fed us after the show.

Guest of Honor Marc Silvestri created a
gorgeous illustration of his character The Darkness. I had a good
conversation with Marc. He's pretty personable for a rock star. This show was also the first time a large crowd got the chance to pick up my latest comic In Dreams - a 24 page book written and drawn in 36 straight hours (most of which was on my birthday). |

James O'Barr brought out the big guns for the portrait of The Shadow. My favorite creation of the night was the Swamp Thing by Phil Hester. You don't know how bad I wanted to go home with this. I did this portrait of Death from Sandman. She is holding an American and an Iraqi flag woven together, upside-down and backwards. The piece on the right was created by new ArtLoveMagic family member, Matthew Warlick. It is so cool that we simply can't show you all of it. Because one great Shadow isn't enough. This piece was created by Brent Schoonover, whose new book Astronaut Dad debuted on the very same day as the show. Every one in the inner circle of ArtLoveMagic was mad at David (one of the Founders of ArtLoveMagic) for letting this unfinished painting of The Thing (above right) go. It was destined to be a masterpiece.
Ultimately the night was a huge success with Heroes4Heroes blowing away their fundraising goal. This was a joy to be at and we're proud of our contribution. |
